The video says “think smart”? Being motivated by fear mongering is hardly wise thinking. Although it was effective to get George Bush elected in 2004.

That made me hungry for eggs.
Even if hell was real I think I’d go there if they had eggs and bacon all the time.
April 26, 2009 at 1:06 am |
Hell will turn me into a delicious omelette? Fantastic!
April 26, 2009 at 8:40 am |
I hope I can request to be scrambled. I don’t want to spend eternity with a soft yoke.
April 26, 2009 at 1:22 am |
Hay, I didn’t say you could use me in that video.
April 26, 2009 at 1:32 am |
Wow….that is ridiculous! I am embarrassed.
April 26, 2009 at 2:32 am |
On behalf of moderate believers everywhere, this is a disgrace. This is exactly the kind of thing that causes the atheists to be suspicious of those of us who choose to worship in private and keep our faiths to ourselves. On behalf of all believers, whatever their religion, I apologize for such a disgusting display.
Peace

Argos, while I am not a huge fan of the video, I have to question your comments.
Please let me know when you can show me in scripture where followers of Christ are called to be moderate. I think the biblical example of a moderate Christian is in Revelation 3:16 where Christ says, “So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.” Moderate = Lukewarm!
Regarding your comment, “those of us who choose to worship in private and keep our faiths to ourselves.” I have to ask you the same question. Where do you see that example in scripture? Jesus commands us to GO into all the world, in Acts people saw the believers and wondered what had overcome them. Christianity would be long ago forgotten if early followers would have worshipped in private and kept their faith to themselves. Maybe that’s part of the problem with the American Church today?
Like I said, I am not a huge fan of the video. Specifically because it does not share the Gospel message after the dramatic statement. Hell is a real place and we must share that with the world but we must also include the Good News that Christ paid the penalty for us and Hell can be avoided if we repent of our sins and accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
God Bless You!

“Any questions?”
Yeah, do you have salt with that? I like to have it with some herbs too.
Besides, what’s the connection between “Smart”, “Jesus” and Omlettes?
April 26, 2009 at 6:11 am |
“Any questions?”
Yeah. One. How can you be such an infantile goddamned cretin and not be embarrassed for yourself?
April 26, 2009 at 6:18 am |
Heaven is the same, but with bacon.
April 26, 2009 at 7:28 am |
Yes, I have several questions… what’s the temperature setting for the stove? How was the pan prepared? Did you use butter, salt, or MSG? If I add cheese to this, would it make me a weird religion like a scientologist?

I’m with The Egginator, now I want some eggs.
April 26, 2009 at 8:06 am |
so, if I go to hell, I become a tasty tasty egg?
fuck yea, I want to become religious now. As an Atheist, I just get nasty tasting rotting underground for the rest of time!!!!
April 26, 2009 at 10:14 am |
This must be parody! So ridiculous.
I have a question: Does everyone go into hell and fry like an egg?
April 26, 2009 at 10:17 am |
Some people go to hell and fry like a hamburger.
Unfortunately it isn’t a parody. It has a “the Company of Christ” copyright at the end of the video. I also found it on the religious video site tangle.com (godtube.com).
April 26, 2009 at 1:55 pm |
Firstly: lol wat?
Secondly: So, going to hell is the main reason to convert? Not Jesus, not “God’s Creations”, not Brotherly Christian Love, and not Morallity. Hellfire is the motivator.
…No wonder.
Being a child who was indoctrined and taught about hell, I remember how mentally paralyzed I was. I could go to hell for something I actually like, and the nature of the bible made me afraid of almost everything, similar to how a dictatorship can make people paralyzed by saying that there is no real earthly knowledge that THEY can get, while telling people what is “right”, in an astounding contradiction.
The Evangelical movement isn’t so much a proud movement as it is a fearful beast who trys to destroy its insecurity by sending an angry roar at every passer-by, working on some, but not on others. But we have the means to deal with the beast- Our minds.

Is there teflon in hell?
April 26, 2009 at 3:53 pm |
Agros is absolutely right.
April 26, 2009 at 3:55 pm |
the book of Revelation called Jude is for seasoned Believers. the rest of you are full of TOLERANCE of evil.
April 26, 2009 at 6:04 pm |
Tolerance of evil?
Just so I’m clear, you’re recommending that all Christians run around yelling, “you’re all going to burn in hell” like crazy people? Maybe with little more work they can all be as holy and “seasoned” as you.
Keep sharing the love of Jesus!

Non-effective, But accurate.
April 26, 2009 at 7:06 pm |
Non-effective. But accurate?
Revelation 21:8
“their place will be as an egg in the Teflon pan of burning butter. This is the second death.”
Revelation14:10
“and he will be tortured as an egg in a Teflon pan with hot butter in front of the holy angels and in front of the Lamb.”
My bad. I forgot about those verses.

[...] I have one question: How can a Christian actually believe this is effective evangelism? The video says “think smart”? Being motivated by fear mongering is hardly wise thinking. Although [...] [...]
April 26, 2009 at 6:57 pm |
Yep! That’s what all Christians believe. Every one of them! The characterization is as ignorant as the video. I’m speaking specifically about people like Matt who characterize this as the “religious” view. That’s wonderfully simplistic.
April 26, 2009 at 6:59 pm |
P.S. It is ridiculous evangelism. Of course, Evangelism is connect to the term Euangellion (Gospel), which specifically means good news. I doubt this is good evangelism or good news to anyone with a brain.
April 26, 2009 at 7:02 pm |
One old time evangelist wrote or perhaps spoke “Preach the Gospel at all times sometimes use words.”
April 26, 2009 at 7:06 pm |
This is probably the lowest form of evangelism, if it can even be called that. My understanding of evangelism is that it is preaching the “good news,” i.e. the possibility of salvation through faith and good works. I suppose telling people the bad news goes hand-in-hand with telling the good news. And this does give an image, a very poor image, of Hell. But for a person with a heart, the real tragedy of Hell has nothing to do with fire. The real tragedy of Hell for those who believe is that the sum total of their lives, their faith and their works was too poor to earn the pleasure of God.
April 26, 2009 at 7:13 pm |
Maybe it’s just me, but I would be more upset about swimming in an eternal lake of fire than I would be about not earning the pleasure of a cruel god that is barbarous enough to send people there.
April 26, 2009 at 8:30 pm |
Once again, that is a gross exaggeration and mis-charaterization of the doctrinal stance on hell. There are many perspectives on what “hell” is. Furthermore, if you want to assume that there is a God and a hell you have to let people answer for themselves as well. How is it legitimate to blame God for allowing humans to choose hell by free will and then usurp that free will by changing the situation that people have chosen? I’m speaking along the conceptual lines of hell being separation from God. If people want that in life, why not in eternity. I think that hell is the complete absence of good. Whatever “evil” people suffer is self inflicted and infinite regret. It’s more about suffering ourselves than it is outside fire and torture. Have you never been tortured by yourself or your wrong choices…I know I have. I am admittedly speaking somewhat impromptu, but the video is an egregiously ignorant representation of the state of things. But your representation is equally uniformed (as far as “hell” goes)
April 26, 2009 at 9:16 pm
How is your representation any more informed? You have only given me your version of hell. Just like every Biblical teaching, there are multiple versions and conflicting interpretations.
I’ve quoted directly from the Bible which speaks of a lake of fire, an unending fiery furnace, tormenting brimstone and gnashing of teeth.
I didn’t post this video because I believe your god or hell exists. It’s just another example of a person using religion to arrogantly judge those different than himself.
April 27, 2009 at 4:21 pm
That is interesting that you said what you did. If your quoting from the bible, I suppose your “direct quoting” is accurate. The reason my representation is more informed is because I’ve actually work through multiple interpretive understandings of hell. I’ve read very widely in the field. I’ve got a Masters in Biblical Studies, so I’m informed in the same way that a person with and MBA is an informed accountant. But I’ve come to this understanding through becoming informed about this stuff.
As far as your direct quotation is concerned, metaphor is rife in the Bible. Fire is a metaphor for judgment and/or purity in the scripture. For instance, David, in the Psalms, talks about being refined like silver in the furnace. I don’t know anyone that thinks David is talking about literal burning.
I’m not trying to be arrogant when I posted what I did. So, I hope that you are talking specifically about the video. All I’m pointing out is that it is a misrepresentation to say some of what you did. I’m also actually being conciliatory in some respects by saying that the egg video is ridiculous…because it is. And your attitude toward the people making the video is also “judgmental”. By your own definition of arrogantly judging those different from yourself. I guess being absolute about a belief is what you find arrogant. However, you your point is self-defeating in that you are intolerable of intolerant people.
And do you think that it’s arrogance that forces people to be absolute about what they believe. I happen to think that it’s conviction and a desire to be consistent about what they think the bible says, however mislead that might be. This doesn’t free any of us from criticism, as our responses to each other so amply displays.
Additionally, there are some Biblical Teachings that are held universally in the Church, which do not have multiple interpretations. So, it’s also inaccurate to say that this is true of “every” Biblical teaching.
April 27, 2009 at 4:44 pm
I’m not trying to be arrogant when I posted what I did. So, I hope that you are talking specifically about the video.
I was speaking of the person in the video, so no offense intended. I agree that there are multiple interpretations of hell. I’ve studied it quite a bit myself.
I try not judge people different than myself. But I do feel justified in judging hateful and arrogant actions. Almost everyone in my life is a Christian, including my wife, and I love all of them very much. It isn’t what a person believes, it is their words and actions that show who a person truly is.
April 27, 2009 at 5:41 pm
Free Will is an extremely difficult concept because it is hard to define. Could please define it !!
I can respect the men who argue that religion is true and therefore ought to be believed, but I can feel only reprobation for those who say that religion ought to be believed because it is useful, and that to ask whether it is true is a waste of time.”
–Bertrand Russell
If people are good only because they fear punishment, and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed.

April 27, 2009 at 5:37 pm |
Good! I don’t want either of us to take offense at the other. I’m glad that you didn’t mean me…I suspected you didn’t. No offense from this end either. I was just discussing with my wife that a lot of people see disagreement (even vehement) as somehow inherently bad. It is interesting that you waxed Bible there…you will know them by their fruits. I’m pleased that our interactions did not end on a sour note. I didn’t necessarily think that was the case, but it’s always good to clarify. By the way, I don’t know if you linked to our site but we would be pleased for you to visit. It’s about something that may be controversial to some church people. However, we like it a lot. http://www.thankheavenforbeer.com

Ahh . . . a man who appreciates a good micro brew. We have more in common than I thought. I’m actually going to start brewing my own beer at home later this year. My younger brother went on a 2 week road trip through Colorado last summer visiting as many brew pubs as he could along the way. I’m hoping to go with him this year.
I wish you lived locally so I could join in the worshipful appreciation of this splendid beverage. I may have to order a t-shirt.
April 28, 2009 at 11:35 am
Just added thankheavenforbeer.com to my RSS feed. Always looking for more good beer. Cool site!
April 28, 2009 at 5:26 pm
Please do order a shirt. By the way, I just wrote an eight article series on the website. It’s in the browse by post section. Any questions you ever have about the process, I would be happy to try to answer. I wished I lived locally, too. I live in Indy and soon in Pasadena, Cali.
April 28, 2009 at 5:27 pm
Hey Mike! That’s my favorite name…it happens to be mine, too. Thanks for the compliment about our site and for adding us to your RSS.
April 26, 2009 at 7:19 pm |
i’m sorry, i AM christian and i think this is absolutely rediculous.
you are all right: fear is not the reason to come to God, love is.
i hope that this doesn’t ruin christianity for all unbelievers who see it. and i hope that those believers who are being led by horrible teaching like this can read the Bible, put their brain to use, and realize that this is not why you live for God.
believe it or not, some christians actually think for theirselves.
April 26, 2009 at 10:06 pm |
Seems somewhat ridiculous to assume that this is what Christians believe and also is deeply troubling to me that such kinds of displays are using the name of Christianity, followers of Christ or insinuating as much to perpetuate their gross misinterpretation of scripture.
dunbarphotoblog, i couldn’t agree with you more.
its a sad truth but the best compliment i’ve ever gotten is
“you’re not like most christians i know”
i think it’s all about challenging the status quo, and yeah i think that usually involves thinking for yourself. and definitely asking questions. and not thinking you know everything.
peace

Darn, I knew it. They serve eggs over-easy in hell. I like them scrambled. I better go to Church.
April 27, 2009 at 6:44 am |
So, every day we put possible chicken embryos in hell for our own eating pleasure? Hmm, what does that mean?
