Amen to that. I believed in Jesus until I read the bible and prayed to him. My life got worse until I took my life in my own hands and stopped praying. I read about the whore of Babylon and the 8? headed monster she rides and how she will go to war with Jesus. This is supposed to happen in the future. The bible is a fairy tale.

yeah, still not convinced. it’s the same stuff over and over again. If you simply concede the presuppositions it all works. it is just not reasonable TO assume these presuppositions. The basic arguments are ‘if you believe in god then it’s easy to believe in god’ just a lot longer way of doing it.

Sadly for you, Julie, your argument about “never seeing your father, mother et al ever again” if you are not a believer has a fatal flaw. When I was a Christian I “knew” that I would not be seeing my parents in Heaven, as they were not “saved”! How are any of the Blessed going to be happy in eternity knowing that their loved ones are being forever tormented in the Lake of Fire?

Obviously, you have made your choice in denying God. I have made my choice in believing in Him with every fiber of my being.

It is also obvious that I will not change your heart, but that will not stop me from praying that your eyes will be opened someday.

I just witnessed the sonogram of my daughter’s twin pregnancies. I saw them moving, sucking their thumbs and turning to each other. The process of DNA and it’s complexities just happen by random choice? There is no divine intervention in all of this? We all came from primordial soup?

Explain genetic birth defects to me. Divine intervention?

I find our existence equally as amazing, I just don’t point to primitive deities to explain it. I think it belittles the true wonder of our universe. To believe a primitive god that requires blood sacrifices created the universe is absurd. He is no different than every other man-made god throughout the centuries. Using your version of a god to explain every unknown gives you comfort, but it doesn’t make it true.

You see my perspective as sad. But I find it more sad to live your life believing in silly superstitions and wasting your days praying to imaginary gods.

Either you believe or you don’t believe…..it is a choice that you made. In fact, I do admire you very much as it takes more “faith” not to believe than it does to believe. Yes, it takes more faith to believe that we just evolved from a meteor, but then again, you can (nor will you ever) be able to explain where the hydrogen originally came from to create the “big bang”. All you can say is: I don’t know. And, when I die I just become dust again and no one will ever remember that I even walked the face of the earth. You will never see your mother, father, children, friends ever again. You become nothing more than the dirt we walked upon. How sad, indeed, to think that!

I have nothing to hide. And I’m not made at an invisible deity that doesn’t exist.

But you’re correct, something did happen to me during my period of devotion … I woke up from my delusion. I can’t exactly pinpoint when it started, but I began to see this religion for what it was. There is no reason to believe s theology so ridiculous and flawed unless you are afraid of what will happen to you if you don’t. I just couldn’t drink the Christian Kool-Aid anymore.

I’ve openly rejected every other man-made god my entire life. I just added one more to the list.

I know you where not talking to me, but this kind of thing is not just silly it’s down right insulting. Do you honestly think no atheist has EVER come to there disbelief through honest inquery? do you HONESTLY think we are all just broken sad people?

heres a hint. the happiest country on earth is more then 90% atheist.

we are not unhappy people, no matter what Hollywood portrays us.

I don’t hate your god, anymore then I hate darth vader. I don’t believe in either of these fictional characters.

I am curious. How do you say on one hand that you have been a devoted Christian for 33 years and have read the Bible as well. Couple of things come to mind: Are you upset with God because you feel that He has not answered a prayer of yours the way you would have liked. Maybe you feel that He was not there for you? Something happened within that 33 year period of devotion;however obviously, you do not need to share with any of us. I can promise you something though, He loves you deeply. Remember, we only see “down the street” but He sees around the corner.

Intelligent people are duped every day. Being intelligent doesn’t make you immune to irrational superstition.

I have read the Bible, many, many times. I was a very devoted Christian for 33 years of my life. I also have a high IQ, much like yourself. Yet I blindly believed it most of my life. Why? Child indoctrination, fear, and blind hope of an afterlife. All are great motivators for faith in invisible people.

I don’t have this blog because I hate Christians. My wife, my family and most of my friends are Christian. I only disagree with their belief system and enjoy discussing the topic.

My posts would offend most Christians because I challenge a god they love and think is real. But I am equally offended when a Christian looks down at me or feels sorry for me as a lost soul on his way to a lake of fire. We disagree and you are free to post your counter thoughts here. If God is real, I don’t pose much of a threat.
