Here I thought America’s problems were due to greed, hate and hypocrisy at the hands of all people. But apparently only 15% of the nation is to blame (the “godless” people).
I feel like I’m feeding a troll by posting a Glen Beck clip. But unfortunately much of America agrees with this jackass. How is it possible for this Christian extremism to be so accepted in our country? It is like witnessing a crazy and angry mob forming, and it scares the hell out of me.
We are all to blame for America’s problems. Let’s all stop pointing fingers and look in the mirror to see what can be done to change things for the better. Fear mongering, bigotry and hate only perpetuates the downward spiral.

Ok, it isn’t illegal to sing Christmas carols anywhere in America, nor are they trying to take the ten commandments down. Secondly, who gives a flying fig, there is a rising population of atheists because of science and logic. People are opening their eyes.

What a freaking joke. Glen Beck is and always shall be an asshole. The country is messed up due to largely to capitalism run wild and a horrible Bush government backed by FauxNews, and both of those problems are largely Christian (especially Bush). Up yours Glen Beck, you are part of the problem.

Yeah I can see how a small number of people in positions of power could screw things up for everyone. The problem is most of those people in positions of power say they are christians. This is another example of not looking inside yourself or your group to see where the true blame should be placed.

One thing I do note, to my shame, is that several years ago I’d have agreed with almost everything he said. From within the mindset of much of christianity, the stuff he says here would be of grave concern. Obviously a growing population of atheists would be bad to them. And they do think everything is all about God.
So in that way, I do understand his appeal even if I lament it greatly.
I wonder how his fans would feel if they knew he’s Mormon.

As a Christian my opinion is that separation of church and state is an absolute necessity. Freedom of religion, freedom from religion – it is one of the great American principles.
Anyone insinuating otherwise is no patriot.

Well said Paul, it is a sad that few Christians do not share that view point. I have seen countless preachers on TV shows, even on CNN say that the constitution does not call for a separation of church and state, rather that the state cannot interfere in church affairs but that the church has a mandate to interfere in state affairs. I have talked to countless others who agree with this assumption, or claim that there is absolutely no mention of anything to do with separation in the Constitution, that we atheists are making it up. I have even been told that the Document itself is based on passages of the bible and that God had a hand in writing it and that references to his glory are spread throughout the document. I have read it, many times over. I have studied it since I was a kid, my father has even written a book on it, and the founding fathers couldn’t have been more clear about it!
Lets hope others start to see the light, though I am not going to hold my breath.

Even a limited understanding of 17th century European history shows the wisdom of the founding fathers in this regard. Something like one third of the population of Germany died during the 30 years war – which was basically a religious war between Catholics and Protestants.
What’s more, Christianity in the US is stronger than the state-supported churches of Europe. Separation of church and state is vital to US political stability and beneficial to Christianity.

I wonder if Beck would consider having Christopher Hitchens on his show. that would be such fun to watch.
Beck’s premise has a long tradition – some Mullahs said the 2004 tsunami happened because foreigners were fornicating at beach resorts (ignoring all the Muslim Indonesians who died,) Plate tectonics isn’t random, but neither does it have a reason in the psychological sense. Let’s see what sins they blame the recent earthquakes on.
Humans just can’t stand to think that they are just part of nature and not the center of everything. Once again, it’s an attempt to anthropomorphise physical processes. Even the well-educated can fall into this nonsense- I just watched a program about the Mars rovers, and the scientists on the teams talked about the machines as though they were alive and attributed characteristics such as “plucky” to them.

What void Beck? There is no void in my life, I don’t need to rely on my imagination for a false sense of comfort or security. I prefer to feel reality.
You say America is declining due to growth in the non-religious population, but answer me this Beck. Why do the most atheistic countries have the lowest crime rates? Lowest teen pregnancy rates? Greater acceptance of minorities.
And lastly, when is the last time an atheist strapped a bomb to his torso and detonated in the middle of a crowd? Or the last time an atheist tortured and killed someone for not taking his belief on faith, without evidence? Or the last time an Atheist burned a cross on his neighbor’s lawn because he has more melanin.
