The Beatitudes (from Latin beatus, meaning “blessed” or “happy”)

The Beatitudes are the teachings of Jesus from the Sermon on the Mount in the book of Matthew and the Sermon on the Plain in Luke.

The essential theme of the Beatitudes is “happy are those who” don’t follow the ways of the world. Almost two thousand years after Jesus gave this sermon, being a Christian has become the way of the world. Around 85% of Americans call themselves Christian. So belief in Jesus would be a safe and easy choice for me. My wife is a Christian, all of my extended family is Christian, and most of my friends as well. But a true faith requires a solid foundation. The Bible is much too flawed to warrant faith in something we can’t see, feel or touch. You can read more about my journey from Christian to nonbeliever here.

My “BE attitude” is how I try to live every day. My greatest joy comes in each day I have on this earth to just BE. To love my wife and watch my children grow. Singer/songwriter James Taylor said it best: “The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time.”
